Rocky Mountaineer, the largest privately owned luxury tourist train in the world, wants to help travelers and cruise enthusiasts cross two of Americans’ most desired destinations, the Canadian Rockies and Alaska, off their bucket lists with the ultimate rail and sail journey. You can visit their website for a look at all of the opportunities this season, but we love this particular package this season for the uniqueness of every aspect of the journey from start to finish! Several highlights of this “Journey Through The Clouds Mountain Adventure Package” include:

>> Kamloops – An overnight stop on many of Rocky Mountaineer’s routes, Kamloops is a riverside city with fantastic restaurants, local pubs, and serene parks to walk through.

>> Jasper – A quiet mountain town filled with wildlife, restaurants and adventure, Jasper is the ideal location for those seeking some wilderness before or after your Rocky Mountaineer journey. As the largest of Canada’s mountain parks, Jasper offers unlimited outdoor activities (day or night). Dip your toes in the biggest glacially-fed lake in the Rockies or watch star systems wheeling across the world’s second largest Dark-Sky Preserve.

>> Banff – The most well known town in the Rockies, Banff offers towering peaks, gorgeous lakes, and the amazingly turquoise Bow River. Whether you’re interested in outdoor adventure, prefer soaking in Banff’s famous sulphurous hot springs or simply want to take in the stunning views at the top of the gondola, Banff is the ideal Canadian destination.

“Our luxury rail and cruise packages enable guests to combine two incredible journeys into one amazing vacation, so they can experience the very best by rail and by sea,” explained Deb Paulsen, vice president, guest experience. “From the glacier fjords in Alaska to the snow-capped mountain peaks of the Canadian Rockies, our vacation packages showcase the very best of the region.”

CMH Cariboos Lodge  This classic backcountry retreat makes everything about the Cariboos warm and inviting. While the terrain supplies untouched slopes, champagne powder, and plenty of tree runs, the lodge features a cozy bar and lounge with nightly jam sessions, a sauna and outdoor whirlpool, and a climbing wall and bouldering cave.

Day 1 Heli-Hiking Tour  The shuttle picks you up from your hotel in Jasper and will transport you to the CMH helipad where you will be flown to the Cariboos Lodge. Upon arrival, you will have time to settle into your room, receive a quick lodge orientation and a mandatory helicopter safety briefing. Guides will speak to each member of the group and split as necessary to make sure everyone is within their comfort level. You will be outfitted with boots, jackets, daypacks, rain-pants, walking poles and a water bottle. For the rest of the afternoon you will have time to relax in the spa area, get a massage or enjoy a drink and tea goodie by the bar before dinner.

Day 2 & Day 3 Heli-Hiking Tour  Morning offers choices: join the morning stretch or sleep a little longer. Breakfast is served at 8:00am and the first helicopter leaves at 9:00am. Each group spends the day roaming and hiking in the mountains. Over the course of the day, the helicopter may move each group to three or four different areas giving you a chance to experience a variety of settings. Lunch is picnic-style with food that you pack from a great selection set out at the lodge each morning. In the late afternoon, you fly back to the lodge for tea, goodies and relaxation prior to a spectacular dinner and an evening of story swapping. Hikes range from approximately one kilometer (1/2 mile) to 15 kilometers (9 miles) – guests hike as much or as little as they desire.
