Poised as one of the top travel destinations for food enthusiasts, the city of Gothenburg has welcomed 20 new additions to its dynamic array of dining options this year alone. From trendy wine bars to lavish restaurants helmed by Michelin-starred chefs, the following are the top eight new restaurants to indulge in while in Gothenburg, Sweden

Foajen 

An intimate venue housed in Unity Jazz Club, Foajen opened in early spring, offering jazz enthusiasts fare from the renowned chef Gustav Knutsson of the Michelin-starred restaurant Bhoga. The new restaurant in Gothenburg is open Friday and Saturday nights, serving elevated fare in a cozy setting. 

Pastor GBG

After a successful debut in February, Pastor GBG is an elevated food truck offering freshly made artisan pasta in front of Gamlestaden’s old factory buildings. These Italian plates are curated by former Michelin-starred chef Henrik Bernvik and the exceptional team behind BIKT restaurant.

Ceno Brasserie

The latest venture from award-winning Michelin-starred chef Stefan Karlsson, Ceno Brasserie made its grand debut in April at the brand-new World of Volvo. Ceno Brasserie is the brainchild of Götaplats Group and serves lunch and dinner in a moody yet ritzy atmosphere. 

Posto 

Just a stone’s throw from the main boulevard Avenyn, Posto is a new Italian restaurant by restaurateur and culinary expert Phillipe Cohen. Posto offers a sumptuous lunch and dinner, with scratch pasta made fresh daily. 

Lorensbergs Fisk & Bar

Lorensbergs Fisk & Bar, a chic new seafood concept, has graced Gothenburg after its opening last February, offering visitors a one-stop-shop for all their seafood needs. The dining destination offers classic renditions of seafare favorites, including seafood soup, mussels, half special à la mer, and shrimp sandwiches. Guests can also buy fresh seafood or take out at the on-site fish shop, Lorensbergs Fiskaffär.

Wazo

One of the smallest wine bars to open in Sweden, Wazo is a chic new winery led by the same family behind local favorite, Café Oizo. Wazo specializes in artisanal wines without additives and offers a small plate menu focusing on shareable cheese and breadboards.

Bar el Guiri

Adding to the flourishing collection of new restaurants in Gothenburg, Bar el Guiri is a Spanish restaurant that opened its doors to guests in early June. The fresh dining spot features an oversized wine and pintxos (tapas) bar, an opulent dining room with an open kitchen, and a héladeria (ice cream parlor) offering ice cream and warm churros. A second-floor lounge completes the restaurant, offering guests a space to play games like shuffleboard and boules. 

Al Banco

One of the first new restaurants in Gothenburg to debut this past January, Al Banco is an Italian-style restaurant offering house pasta with an innovative take on traditional sauces and plates. The Pasta Pomodoro, for example, is a must to try, crafted with San Marzano tomatoes, sofrito, basil, stracciatella, and parmesan.
