Tucked away in Costa Rica’s renowned Monteverde cloud forest, Hotel Belmar, an award-winning, carbon-neutral hotel, has recently completed a thoughtful renovation of its luxury rooms and suites. These enhancements reflect the eco lodge’s commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible travel while enriching the guest experience by integrating new modern comforts with the unique natural setting of the highlands.
A boutique, family-owned eco-lodge in Costa Rica’s Monteverde cloud forest, Hotel Belmar has further enhanced its guest’s connections to nature and mindful serenity by redesigning its opulent 26 rooms. These new enhancements focus on honoring the hotel’s deep eco-friendly ethos while providing guests with the contemporary comforts they desire.
Local designers led the project from Costa Rica’s NAAS Interior Culture, who thoughtfully planned the redesign to strike a balance between refreshed contemporary spaces and the lush forest environment.
“We are excited to collaborate with NAAS to evolve the aesthetics of Hotel Belmar’s rooms and interiors,” says Pedro Belmar, managing director of Hotel Belmar, in a press release. “Preserving our historical features and reflecting the cultural values of our surrounding community are paramount, even as we elevate the overall guest experience. This partnership is perfectly aligned with our commitment to thoughtful design processes that honor organic growth and fluid evolution. We are delighted to inspire a design that captures our vision of sustainability, ensuring every enhancement supports our long-standing dedication to environmental stewardship.”
The recent enhancements to the guest rooms feature natural raw materials, including sustainably sourced wood, functional yet elegant furniture, and a muted color palette. The mid-century design is further elevated using unique textures like velvet, natural fibers, and organic fabrics. Every material was carefully chosen for its minimal environmental impact, such as ethically sourced wood, low-VOC paints, and organic textiles.
The renovations at Hotel Belmar also emphasize natural light and the calming sounds of the forest, with each indoor space integrated into the surrounding wilderness. The Sunrise Room, for example, features a private balcony with breathtaking views of the cloud forest and Nicoya Peninsula, allowing guests to wake up to fresh air and panoramic vistas.
