Like the rest of the world, Park City has been impacted by COVID-19. But at a time when we have come to appreciate outdoor activities more than ever, this destination boasts tremendous opportunities in outdoor experiences that make this mountain town a safe space for you to visit all season long. LuxeGetaways is thrilled about all these offerings, and we have curated this collection of everything you need to know when planning your next visit to Park City that includes our three favorite local activities, four favorite activity destinations and five favorite luxury hotels.
“Let’s All Stay Safe to Stay Open” is the local mantra this community and the residents are sharing, and they expect their visitors to follow the rules to keep everyone healthy. Summit County is still requesting social distancing, avoiding large gatherings, and practicing vigilant handwashing. As of April 10, 2021, the Governor of Utah removed the statewide mask mandate, however businesses are still allowed to require masks within their establishments, if desired. We know you will be eager to spend most of your time taking advantage of the amazing outdoor activities, so wearing a mask inside is a small price to pay!
Discover a destination where the best summers come naturally. A place where days of hiking, biking, fishing, and farmers markets are followed by evening concerts, nightlife, dining, and deluxe accommodations. The local businesses are creating safe experiences to keep entertainment options available for the general public – think outdoor dining, musical performances, sunset strolls, and quality relaxation.
As the current state of affairs change day-by-day, we recommend always checking with businesses directly for the most up-to-date details on their operations, hours and practices. We advise everyone to explore Park City’s website for the latest guidelines: VisitParkCity.com.
A Park City Summer: 3 Favorite Local Activities
Golf | You can golf in Park City the same day you fly in. It’s true. Park City golf courses are less than an hour away from Salt Lake City International Airport. The hard part is deciding which Park City golf course you should play first. Park City and the surrounding area are home to seven public and eight private courses. Once you’ve chosen a course – perhaps one designed by William Neff or a Rees Jones championship course, or their local Park City Golf Club, your next challenge will be to master the art of hiding your shock over how much further your ball soars in these conditions.
Fly Fishing | Park City may have some of the greatest snow on earth, but the town isn’t just for skiers. When the snow melts, all those steep ski runs turn into dusty single tracks for mountain bikers and trail runners. By May, all that prime powder from the winter becomes some of the most beautiful and pristine rivers in the Wasatch Range. A short cast away from downtown Park City are two of the best rivers in the Rockies for fly-fishing. The Provo River carves right through the Heber Valley and rolls down Provo Canyon. Across the valley, the Weber River connects the Echo and Rockport reservoirs. Both of these are blue ribbon fisheries: quality fly-fishing locations where the state ensures that the water is plentiful, the shores are accessible, and the fish keep jumping. Both Provo and Weber rivers maintain a high number of large fish per mile. There are also several great outfitters who can help with equipment, instructors and guides.
Hot Air Ballooning | Enjoy the absolute best views of Park City with a hot air balloon ride high above the town. Gaze out over Kamas Valley as you ascend thousands of feet into the sky with the Wasatch Mountains forming a rugged skyline to the west and the streets of Park City gradually disappear below you. Whether you go with Skywalker Balloon Company or Bigfoot Balloons, your hot air balloon excursion will begin at sunrise when the atmosphere is the most stable and predictable. Trips last about an hour and can have anywhere from four to 12 passengers, depending on the size of the basket. You can also make a special request for a two-person ride for an unforgettable romantic event. Your experienced pilot will be with you and in control of the aircraft the entire time, and they even help out with photos to capture your special moment.
