Are you thinking of traveling to Europe in 2025? This continent has treasures around every corner and some unique ways to see an incredibly varied landscape. Here are four suggestions for unexpected ways to experience Europe that will provide memories that will last a lifetime.

Rail Biking Under the Stars in Greece

rail biking

One of McCabe’s favorite European travel adventures ever was rail biking under the stars in Megara, Greece, just outside Athens. Rail biking is an incredible way to see a place and is growing in popularity around the world with old train tracks used for sit-down cycling – something almost anyone can do. While the daytime views along the coast are captivating, the evening experience, especially under the moonlight, is next level, with hidden mineral reflections visible at night. The rail bike passes along ancient Greek ruins, a road used by the Spartans, and a World War 2 bunker as the local guide shares captivating tales—a memorable way to see this stunning Greek coastline, day or night.

Dog Sledding Across the Artic

Christmas dogsled and Polarlight Norway

If you are a dog lover, dog sledding in Norway is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Norway offers dog sledding in many regions, including the Arctic, central, eastern, and southern Norway. Dog sledding in Tromsø provides a unique experience of the Arctic wilderness, with the chance to see the Northern Lights, which are better than ever these days. Finnmark is the northernmost county in Norway, with vast landscapes ideal for dog sledding. Some tours combine dog sledding with reindeer herding and other cultural activities. Visit Alta, also known as the “City of the Northern Lights,” where dog sledding experiences can be combined with aurora chasing.

Rafting the Last Wild River in Europe

experience europe rafting

Featured in the upcoming series Dream of Europe, rafting in Albania’s Vjosa River–which also happens to be considered the last wild river in Europe–is a memory that will stay with you forever. The crystal-blue waters, thrilling currents, and majestic mountain views offer quite the adrenaline rush. Rafting guide Irma from Vjosa Explorer will make the experience safe and memorable. She’s a great storyteller and brings along local delicacies like a candied walnut (you eat the shell) and more. Transportation, snacks, neoprene wetsuits, life jackets, and helmets are included in the experience.

Paragliding in the French Alps

View of the Annecy lake from Col du Forclaz

Nestled in the French Alps, you’ll find Lake Annecy, where mountain springs, grassy meadows, alpine pastures, and rocky summit ridges create one of the world’s most picturesque spots. There’s no better way to take it all in than paragliding with Bauges Parapente, located at the heart of the Parc Naturel Regional du Massif des Bauges, a mountain range recognized by UNESCO as a Global Geopark. Work with experienced instructors to glide into the skies and take in unparalleled views. The spring and summertime are the best seasons to experience this unique adventure in the skies.
