The Betsy-South Beach Hotel originally opened in March 2009 on Ocean Avenue in the busy Art Deco District; and it has just completed a multi-million dollar restoration. After merging with the (former) historic Carlton Hotel that was located just behind the property on Collins Avenue, the massive expansion has been introduced to become a unified property. After a massive (and impressive) two-year transformation, the “new” Betsy Hotel is now fully ready… and it’s spectacular!
When Two Historic Hotels Become One
After taking over the Carlton Hotel on Collins Avenue to debut a new “Art Deco” wing, the Betsy-South Beach Hotel now features 130 guestrooms, two restaurants by award-winning Chef Laurent Tourondel (LT Steak & Seafood and The Alley), a new rooftop pool complex, a library, a Panther’s Coffee bar, and nearly 15,000 square feet of special event space, among many other amenities unique to this South Beach icon.
The expansion involved the preservation and rehabilitation of the two historic hotels and existing facades, refurbishment of the iconic Carlton lobby and the addition of new structures and rooftop complex. The “new” Betsy Hotel includes the original Ocean Drive building now known as the “Colonial” wing, and the fully renovated Collins Avenue building now known as the “Art Deco” wing.
A New Wing
In the new “Art Deco” wing, you will find a refined Wine Bar and a brand-new Panther’s Coffee Shop, a library; and a South-Beach-worthy rooftop area that features a gorgeous pool, a sun deck and a large event space.
The two wings are joined as one unified property by a bridge, conceived as a massive piece of art called the “The Orb” that wants to -literally- connect history and modernity. Don’t miss the opportunity to go see “The Orb” in the alley that connects the two buildings, because there is also a brand-new cute gelato counter and a casual restaurant simply named The Alley, which is “in” the alley.
Despite the new additions that are absolutely spectacular, the original “Colonial” wing of The Betsy Hotel is nothing-to-be missed either. With its relaxing sun deck, its soothing courtyard pool, renowned Colonial-style gorgeous lobby and the exquisite LT Steak & Seafood Restaurant by Laurent Tourondel, there’s a lot to love about this property.
The Betsy-South Beach has been a true gem for the savvy-travelers looking to enjoy South Beach far from the clingy properties since it opened in 2009. Independently owned and operated, and standing as the only Forbes Four Star and AAA Four Diamond rated boutique hotel in the Greater Miami area, The Betsy-South Beach Hotel is a classy, discrete and high-quality establishment that is now even more exceptional than before the restoration. If that was even possible…
