As one of the premier leisure airlines at Munich Airport, Discover Airlines is set to significantly enhance its operations in Germany by incorporating long-haul routes into its already extensive short- and medium-haul offerings. This expansion, which includes the introduction of new direct flights and nearly 30 vacation destinations, will commence in March 2025.

Further solidifying its position as one of the largest leisure airlines at the hub, Discover Airlines is set to open a long-haul base at Munich Airport in March 2025. The airline plans to deploy seven aircraft, including two new Airbus A330s, and enlist around 400 crew members to support its expanded schedule. Currently operating five short-haul planes to 23 destinations, this move will significantly upgrade Discover Airlines services, with 30 new vacation destinations soon to be available to travelers.

“With the new long-haul leisure routes, Discover Airlines adds highly attractive intercontinental destinations to Munich Airport’s route portfolio. As one of the largest airlines based at Munich Airport, Discover Airlines, combining tourist and hub carrier roles, perfectly fits into the Lufthansa Group network,” says Jost Lammers, chairman of the Management Board of Munich Airport, in a press release.

These new routes feature three weekly direct flights from Munich to Orlando, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, starting March 3. Beginning April 1, Discover Airlines will offer three weekly flights to Windhoek, Namibia’s capital, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Additionally, from April 12, the airline will provide up to five weekly flights to Calgary, Canada, with service on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Discover Airlines will be the only airline offering direct connections from Munich to these exciting destinations year-round.

“The expansion of our operations in Munich is an important milestone for us,” says Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines, in a press release. “With this step, we are consistently focusing on our goal of expanding Lufthansa’s offering at the two major German hubs with versatile, attractive holiday options offering travelers even more choice. With our three new long-haul destinations we are doing just that as they have never been accessible by direct flight from Munich before or were last accessible many years ago. Our increased activities are a clear commitment by the Lufthansa Group to Munich as location for the air transport industry as well as to the entire region.”
