Do you hear that? That is the “Call of the Wild” just beckoning to be explored and it is as exotic as you can get without a passport. I am talking about the great state of Alaska, and while most of the bucket-list destinations I feature on my luxury lifestyle show ‘Travel Time with Linda’ are outside the United States; I made the exception for America’s “Last Frontier” and have no regrets.
While filming our Adventure Alaska episode I showcased some of the most epic, “going to the nectar of your being” and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Seriously, I had to pinch myself each day in amazement with the content we were able to capture on the show. This locale is ideal for anyone who wishes to embrace luxury escapism and experience surreal adventure.
My Alaska adventure began upon arrival at the Anchorage Airport, greeted curbside in jetsetter style by BAC Transportation who delivered us first class to Rust’s Flying Service; a premier small plane tour operator that offers private airport transfers to some of the finest Alaskan wilderness lodges.
In Alaska, traveling by car is not always the best option as much of the region has limited roads and trails, so often the best mode of transportation is by small aircraft. Just a short, scenic float plane ride, and I found myself where “rustic meets luxury” at the exclusive, eco-luxe resort, Stillpoint Lodge. Nestled on the edge of the wilderness at Kachemak Bay Park and the majestic, fairytale-like village of Halibut Cove, this was the ideal place to call home that is rustic, yet chic.
Built between the trees, while preserving as many natural features of the land as possible, I enjoyed the quiet solace and privacy of my lakefront cozy log cabin with its spectacular waterfront view. Providing a front row seat to Alaska’s diverse wildlife in its natural habitat, each morning I would start my day enjoying my cup of joe lounging on my private deck while friendly otters swam by to say “hi.” This was the ideal location to stay at natures doorstep while experiencing Alaska at its finest.
A relaxing base camp for adventurers, Stillpoint Lodge offers an all-inclusive activity package just brimming with one-of-kind curated custom itineraries. Flight-seeing, Fly Fishing, Glacier Kayaking and my personal favorite; Bear viewing.
Playing peek-a-boo with thirty odd bears up close and personal, expertly lead by our Alaska Ultimate Safari’s Tour Guide, Kirsten Lee. My favorite moment by far was while filming the impromptu close of the episode, getting extremely close in proximity to three bears, then turning my back on them to deliver my lines to the camera as they casually lumbered behind me in the background. I could not believe my luck because not only was this the perfect way to end the show, thankfully I was able to do it unharmed and in one take! This region has so much to offer the traveler who desires guided adventures, a fantastic lodge and unbelievable travel experiences with memories to last a lifetime.
