The KRC group acquired the property last fall, before transforming it into a luxury boutique hotel with a strong focus on design. The motel-style outside facade remains, but the inside is absolutely spectacular. The rooms are colorful without being too bold, the space is luxurious and offers exquisite amenities such as: bathrobes, slippers and luxury bath products. Every room comes with its own private outdoor terrace with Adirondack chairs, a lush pocket garden landscaped for privacy and unobstructed views of the Kennebunk River.

As a guest at The Yachtsman, you must know that Boathouse Restaurant is the newest dining venue of the Kennebunkport Resort Collection (KRC), and is located only steps from the hotel. Offering an innovative menu developed under the leadership of Executive Chef John Shaw (formerly at Tides Beach Club), the restaurant is located on the first floor of Boathouse Waterfront Hotel & Restaurant directly on the Kennebunk River. The menu and decor underwent a revamp this winter to reflect vibrant “maritime chic” interiors that celebrate the surrounding water views and a modern twist to the classical “Maine” menu that includes a dedicated Lobster Bar.
Located only a few miles away, Earth at Hidden Pond is also a favorite dining destination for foodies all over the country. In addition to their impressive decor that has been inspired by nature, their menu is simple, yet innovative, which focuses on “farm to fork” freshness. At Earth, expect local meats and seafood and ingredients that are used from one of two onsite organic gardens. Your meal will be as impressive as your surroundings, as Earth has brought the outside in. Earth’s walls were built from trees cut to clear the site, and round wood “pickles” cover the walls to enrich the rustic feel. A truly memorable experience in every way, and a meal you will certainly not soon forget.
Finally, the most impressive attribute at the The Yachtsman is definitely the decor, and the level of detail in every room and common area, without forgetting the wide variety of amenities including: free rentals at the Marina located next door (kayak, paddle board, etc.), coffee and pastries in the morning, happy hour at the Marina Bar and an impressive “welcome aboard” amenity kit. To get to the closest Maine beach, guests can hop on the free shuttle provided by KRC or use the complimentary hotel bikes.
