The travel industry was sorry to learn that an American Airlines pilot died mid-flight today, October 5, 2015. Flight 550, which is an Airbus A320 with 147 passengers and five crew members on board, was being operated by U.S. Airways, which is now part of American. The plane took off around midnight, traveling from Phoenix (PHX) to Boston (BOS), but the pilot became ill during the flight. The co-pilot was able to land the plane after being diverted to Syracuse in upstate New York.
